Hi, first time breeding and been doing a lot of readying on here and on the net also videos on youtube. I fill I have came far with the betta's. all look well, feed twice a day but not to much. on Tuesday I put my bettas in there breeding tank after two weeks of conditioning them all as been going well. after a few hours of being in the breeding tank and the female in a larger jar in the tank both made bubble nest. by this time both seemed ready, both flaring at each other and the females lines also changed. I sat there for a while and seen them mating and the male raping himself around the female, this is the problem been keeping a eye on them and checked before bed still no eggs, so this morning checked and still cant see eggs also male seems to have lost a lot of this tail, that the mo I have slit the tank again so they cant fight but will there be any eggs in the nest please help i think I'm almost there.

many thanks
Rob

are you certain? they are so incredibly tiny!! they might be in the nest and you dont even realize. Is he guarding it? going to the bottom and then back to the nest?(picking up eggs and then putting them back in the nest). sometimes it takes a few attempts for them to get it right. id wait a day or so and try again if you are certain there are no eggs. but look veeerrryyy closely in there as they are very easily overlooked as they are so small.
best of luck!
cheers

Eggs should be white and opaque if they're in the bubble nest. They look like tiny little circular rice grains among the see through bubbles. The eggs are like 10 times smaller than the bubbles I think and they should be wedged between bubbles. The eggs can be on the bottom of the tank, which the father will scoop up later.

When I bred bettas once, every time I turned on the light, they fought. Then I shut off the light and viewed them in the dark (street lamp light shining through my window provided illumination) They calmed down and mated, the betta wrapping around the female, the female raining eggs :3

So maybe let them have a time in the dark. It's been a while but I think you should keep them 1-2 days together unseparated at a time.
