Hello everyone

After asking max a million questions I finally decided to breed my ikkle bettas,
I was gonna keep this one as a pure pet but I decided he's just too amazeing not to carry on his line
I set up a tank but I couldn't find anything to put female in(she's showing bars) and one thing lead to another and I found a good freezer bag with alot of room(more then coca cola bottle) I taped it to side with water tape so the top stays open with a wide area of surface

Hope it's ok
I followed some of the net guides but most went against each other....
Soz about plastic plants best I could fine at LFS.... I'll get better ones tommrow

anyway both fish been fed on nothing but BW and BS and I have baby food ready....

Now 1 problem
The female is showing bars and male deff seems into her.... but he wont build a nest >.<
was told he should start within 4 hours it's now 12 hours

I put a mathmos ball near tank now(it's a mood light ball that charges up then carry it around with ya it's a sunset red colour which seems to relax them both... and as the battery runs low its like the sun going down...
also when its run ouyt simply plug charger back in and away it goes

anyone got ne ideas about nest?
he's flareing alot and wants her lol

thanks
also I hope tanks ok please say it is lol >.<

just leave him to it, if hes ready he will make a nest, if not try again in a week or so.

hi. best thing i can say to a newbie breeder is to be patient. I took over a year to get my first successful spawn. I'm pretty sure it's because I kept taking the fish out too early. Just give them time. I know it's hard, but try not to rush anything. I'd give the male at least a few days to get a nest up. If you have a nest from another male, just steal that and put it in his tank. My male and female from my last spawn are back in a tank together waiting until the female is fully ready to spawn. It took the male 3 or 4 days before he started his nest but once he did he built a nice one quickly!

Are the bars on the female horizontal or vertical? Horizontal are stress stripes, vertical are breeding bars :)

Just give him some time. I've found that young fish tend to not get it right at first but eventually figure the whole process out.

There vertical Bars
He's got a bubble wrap pad to try build a nest under but no luck....

Hiya

I been watchin him all day
He doesn't seem to wanna make a nest.....

What do I do about water going merky I'll put them back into Condition tanks and give them 3 days of Blood worm

Sound advice, Also I have had spawns where the male wouldnt build a nest until the eggs hatched (the saliva holds eggs up).
At any rate dont get overanxiouse for a spawn IT WILL happen ,just keep in mind that all ettas have a different style of spawning.

don't take them out! you'll just delay the spawning that way.

if the water is too murky, it's not clean enough. bettas are picky about cleanliness of the water. try changing say 30 to 50% of the water (with both still in there. make sure to change half the water in the female's bag too.

Maybe you can poke a few small holes in the bag just to let the water mix between the two parts of the tank. I imagine hormones might be present and help signal the male to build a bubble nest if he's reluctant! If not, it can't hurt to try anyways :)

Good call BlueCrown! In my last spawn, the male never really built a decent bubble nest at all. Just maybe 30 small bubbles...barely enough to hold the eggs up properly! They can definitely spawn without any major sort of bubble nest :)
