Hi i posted earlier about my male not building a nest. But then you all suggested a "betta spa" solution, which i went and bought. It has worked wonders in only a matter of hours! Thank you so much for that... but there is another problem (of course lol!)

Now his nest is HUGE and my female is ripe with eggs... so i put her in the tank with him early this morning (7:00 A.M.) and the male would show off to her and chase her a little... but she has done nothing but run away and ignore him. What can i do? She always seems ready when she is in the floating container in his tank, but when she is in the tank with him, she doesn't care about him anymore...

So there has been no signs of spawning other than my male trying to breed with her.......... AHH aggravating lol!

I have bred bettas SOOOOOOOOO many times, and i have never had any of these problems before

put her back in her container and allow the pair to get used to one another for a bit longer. has she barred up? if she has barred up and still fleeing from the male, just give her time, leave them together and keep an eye on them. if she goes from barred up to stress stripes then remove her for a while

the behavior you are talking about is classic courting behavior, if you jar her again and then release her again leave them together, he will chase her and she will run if you watch she may wiggle at him in a certain way and that will send him flying back to the nest to blow more bubbles, you may also see that she will sneak over and have a look at what hes done. When courting do keep an eye that she isnt getting beaten up to bad and be patient some will behave like that for a week before they actually spawn, other times it will be within a matter of minutes or hours. You may also consider placing a small pot or vase type thing in the spawn tank to give the female somewhere to hide from the male, dont despair its all normal behavior
good luck

thanks guys i'll take your advice on this one! I have her back in her container and i'll let her recover over night. By tomorrow morning, ill see if she's ready and has dark bands across her body. If i have any more questions i'll be sure to ask you guys again :)

do you wrap a towel around the tank?
i have to with some of my bettas there what appears shy...

breeding bands are verticle, not across her body, if the lines are runing along her body, these are stress stipes, shes not interested.. breeding stripes should show as verticle bands, almost like tiger stripes.

lol i know that they are vertical... ive bred bettas sooo many times haha. But this time all these weird things are happening...
I have three different females that I have been trying, but they all dont seem to want him (and their body colors are so pigmented that you cant see their horizontal or vertical stripes... ). Do you think it is because these females are Crowntails and the male is Veiltailed?

are you planning on selling your fry?
if so your not gonna get much interest in Combetails!
i your breeding your best sticking to CT females to CT males and so on!

i dont know what a combtail is or looks like lol :) could you describe one to me or send me a picture? are they crowntails? how are combtails made? thank you

im not planning on selling my fry... i usually keep them for myself or give them away to good homes :D
