1 gallon bowls are like $3 at Walmart 
You can also get a 1 gallon with a light hood and UGF (not that it does much good) there for $10. The real difference in cost comes when you think about the fact that the $10 10 gallon is just bare-bones... unless you're happy with a completely bare tank you have to do huge water changes on, you're still gonna have to get a filter, heater, and light hood, not to mention substrate and decorations.
