Hi

My friend has one of these small aquariums. It was empty for ages and after talking about my fish tank, she has now set hers up again and against my advice, following a visit to her lfs, added 2 small goldfish.

The tank is far too small for them but she's insisting it's okay because the lady at the lfs told her it was.

She hasn't got the filter running because she says that's why the last ones died as it was too strong and 'kept sucking them in.'

Ideally I'd like her to take the goldfish back and get a heater and add a few tropical fish but she won't. So I feel the next best thing is to get a filter running. I have no idea what to suggest. There is algae on the front of the tank and she is now saying she can get 'sucker fish' as the lfs said she could once she saw the algae. I have suggested a snail which I'm hoping is okay and will stop her getting 'sucker fish'.

Is there anyway I can reduce the power to the filter that is in the tank already so she will run it again? Are these known to be too powerful? Also, would it help to have live plants in there? Please help. I'm doing my best to make these fish as comfortable as possible in a far from ideal situation.

Thanks
