Betta And Ghost Shrimp

Has any one had ghost shrimp in with a Betta? I have 3 ghost shrimp that I bought today and want to know if I just bought them for a nice shrimp dinner for my Betta or if he will leave them alone. I have the shrimps in a different tank alone right now cause I think the one might be pregnant. But I am not sure cause I never had shrimps before. Any one have them together? Oh hes in a 5 gallon tank by him self. In the pic there was water on the tank cause I just got done cleaning it! Sorry!

Well hello and !!

Looks like you've got a nice tank there for your betta. As for the ghost shrimp many have kept bettas with ghost shrimp, and it all depends. I think it is rare that the betta will attack the shrimp and eat them. However some have had it happen! So it is not something I would completly rule out.

Also if you think your ghost shrimp is pregnant, it will have green balls (those are the eggs) in it's stomach. Take a look HERE at this picture. If you look at the ghost shrimp and in the middle section there is a green spot. Those are eggs that she is holding.

depends on teh temperament of your betta.
my betta has eaten lotsa shrimp , and a few smaller minnows and guppy fries,
mine in poarticular has lots of bloodlust for live food.

Well the shrimp has like 3 brownish balls under the belly that it keeps moving with its legs. I will try and post a picture tomorrow as I don't have any batteries right now and I have to recharge my rechageable ones. I am new at the ghost shrimp thing. I have had my betta for about 1 1/2 now. BTW his name is Bullet.

I have Henry (our Betta) and he doesnt seem to mind our ghost shrimp at all....we have four...the only time he gets annoyed is when one decides to hitch a ride on his tail fin or something, but thats only happened once that i know of

Tatsu ate my shrimp. Now he's constipated and I'm getting haunted by an angry arthropod!

My VT won't have anything else that's moving in his tank. You just have to observe the betta's temperment. Does he flare at everything that moves, including you when you move close to it to see him? Is he calmer, only flaring at things that look like him, or a mirror reflection of himself? If he's laid back, he's likely to do fine with shrimp...mine isn't, he'll rush to the front of the tank and flare at me every time i approach. I tried putting an amano shrimp in with him to clean up the algae, but he kept the shrimp so scared it hardly ever moved for the day that it was in the tank. The betta stalked it ceaselessly and nipped at it as much as it could.

Like everyone said, it really depends on the betta. My little guy is very laid back and rarely flares but when I put a ghost shrimp in his tank with him, he became agressive and ate it before I had a chance to take it back out, poor little guy!! Just because the betta has a docile temperment doesn't necessarily mean that it will get along with tank mates. Good luck with them if you do put them with your betta Let us know if they get along.

i had a ghost shrimp in with aladdin (the shrimp was abu ) and those two got on fine. unfortunatly, abu died shortly after i upgraded those two. i had them together for probably three or four months without any problems in an unheated, unfiltered tank. abu would swim up to get food while i was feeding aladdin and then sit on aladdin's head while he ate
they got on fine, i've been debating getting al a new ghost buddy, but i've heard stories of people's bettas mutilating their shrimp. i guess it all depends on the betta.

Hey if it worked before, it'll work again. Just don't end up with a pregnant one like I did. I can't put shrimp with my betta because every couple of days I FEED him shrimp to help with digestion.
