Does your Betta look down? Is he not flaring with the same passion he used to? Is he bored? Fear not Betta lovers for there are many household ways to fill your guys (and gals) with bettas booty shaking happiness!
First, bright colors! Who is not inspired or attracted to bright colors? Guess what, your babies will love them too! Try placing a bright colored lotion bottle, notebook, shiny marble, lunch box, picture, ect next to the tank. My boys love this! Its so fun to watch how curious they are. They will swim close and study the object for a few mins, swim off for a bit, then come right back. I've even had one boy "fall in love" with a notebook as some of you may remeber. He bubblenested at the sight of it everytime.
Second, do a little mind teasing. Want to totally get your bettas attention? Try taking a plant you usually put in the bottom and let it float on top. I did this one this morning and my boys have not left the plants for hours.
Here they are exploring their craxy mixed up plants.
Third, a little flaring is a good thing. If you have 2 male bettas let them have a peek at each other every now and then. Make sure you have a divider and such of course NEVER put males together. If you have only one place a small mirror next to his tank for just a couple of minutes and watch them strut.
Remeber, while this is ok in moderation to much can be a very bad thing for your betta. If you have a sick or stressed its best not to do it.
Fourth, when you change your tank water and do a full cleaning, move the plants around just a bit. Mine usually explore for at least an hour after a cleaning. Now if your betta is sick or stessed again its best not to do this kind of thing.
Finally, yourself! Yes thats right betta moms and dads, your entertainment! Play with your betta and learn what it likes and does not like. I have a betta that when I wave at him he will swim to the side of the tank and snake dance up and down. "Hi mommy!" Others love to play peekabo, although your family may wonder why you keep ducking under that table and back up again. Some just are instrested in everything you do in general. Walking around the room, drinking water, exercising, talking (Im convinced they understand" Food time" now).
So play with your bettas! Love them and remember why you brought them into your lives. Because they were something special and so are you!
