I have had my Beta for 1 year now and it has always been very healthy but on wednesday I noticed it was looking very fat, by that evening I could see his scales were sticking out which I think means dropsy.
I have been using furanol but he hasn't got any better and I don't know what to do now. He has been off his food but this evening I tried giving him blood worm and he did come up and eat one which must be a good sign.
I really don't want my fish to die so any help would be great.
Thanks in advance

How long have you been treating him with the furanol for?
Dropsy can also be brought about by constipation amoungst other things, so you should try changing his diet as well as treating him with the furanol med. Seriously cut down on dried or high protein foods, and move the betta onto a more veg orientated diet- things like de-shelled cooked and chopped up pea's, blanched and chopped up spinache, chopped up cucumber heart etc are all good. Frozen daphinia is also good for fishes digestion- the betta may show little interest in the veg at first, but it is important he eats it, so by reducing his other normal foods will help encourage him to eat it.
Dropsy is a difficult desease to treat but is not incurable, so i would still advise trying to treat the betta  . Doing regular small daily water changes with StressCoat dechlorinator will also help too.

I dont think he would get pineconed from constipation? Would he? I lost one of my bettas to dropsy its not nice.

Thanks for your replys,
I have used the furanol for 3 days now and will use it again tonight.
I have tried to give him peas but he will not eat them, I have given him daphinia in the packs with jelly but he doesn't always eat them either. He is a really picky eater.

I will try cucumber tomorrow, the pea I tried to feed him tonight he just ignored.

I will give it ago Thanks for your help.
I have also been reading about epson salt baths which reduce the swelling so I think I might try that aswell.
