I have an Amazon sword var. It's leaves are growing rather large, What is the best method of prunning these back without affecting the main plant itself, can you cut it at the leaf base, please advise.

Sorry, that should read can you cut it at the plant base.

You can cut the stem just below the leaf, but unless your amazon swords are growing completely out-of-control, I would advise not pruning them. I generally only "prune" my amazon swords if the leaves show signs of deterioration.

Simply tear the leaf of at the rhizome (or as close as you can). This will allow regeneration of new leaves. I used to remove 10 to 20 leaves a week from my two E. blehri. Those were the days!

Cheers gf225, thanks alot, I told you not to get shut of them aswell.

LOL. I do regret it at the moment but it the longterm it's for the best. You should have seen the state of the tank after uprooting them - it even ripped up my heater cable!
