Best Way To "kill" A Fish?

Can you not get something from the vets which drops into the water putting the fish to sleep and then killing it?
This is how I would choose if I could

I hope not, infact flushing fish dead or alive is bad news.

Risk of adding exotic pathogens to the native fish population....
Unlikely but not worth the risk.
