We only have 7 fry left and wondered what the best way to harvest the brine shrimp would be for a small amount. We tried a coffee filter but that didn't seem to work and the smallest net we have lets them all through. Also do they need to be rinsed first before feeding?

Any advice would be great.

all i do with mine is i get a large (tall) clear conatiner and fill it with normal water 1/2 full, then poor the hatched bbs in to it, leave to settle for 10 mins and all the eggshells will float to top.

Unhatched ones will sink.

Get a bright light and shine it in the centre of container (frokm the side in the middle section) all the bbs will swim towards the light, then simply shrynge them in to another small clear tub :)

A small light is better (if you use a tourch, cup your hand to make the light smaller on the tub)..

Good luck.

i simply just add the BBS and their water direct to the tank, my fry dont suffer at all from this but ive got some BBS shrimp nets coming in next week which will help you hopefully.

Thanks 5teady. Do you then just use the syringe to take out what you need and put it straight into the fry tank? I must admit I was expecting them to be bigger than they are

Daz....what about the salt or does that not matter?

no no no

the best way is to get a large seringe, over 5mm wide, and suck them up (the ones designed to squirt medicine into unwilling children's mouths!)

it works.

Yep...that's what we are using at the moment :good: I knew it would come in handy one day

Yeah, the small tub i shrynge them in to i keep for 1-2 days to feed the fry, i just shrynge them out when needed..

Sometimes i just shrynge them straight out of what i hatch them in and feed that way, the salt in the water never bothered mine as its not really enough to effect the size of the tank.

nah the salt doesnt hurt them at all, i use aquarium salt as standard and with the fry's daily water changes this is reduced big time anyway.

Thats what i use, my lfs sells them for 50p so i got one lol.

i use decapsulated brine shrimp, there is a how to under most asked questions,, and i have a hard time with the rinsing too,, i used a fish net with a paper towl in it,, worked for a while bu it started to rip up then,, the recipe i used i made the whole bottle and then it can be kept in the refingerator for like six months, in a salty sosution, i made way more then needed but now all i do is shake up the bottle straight out of the fridge and por out 1/2 to 1 teaspoon with the water and put it in the tank just like that ,, i know my ababies are eating it cause their stomicks turn orange and they are getting lots bigger

That's a great help......thanks guys :good: BTW....I thought they would not be keen at first but they have gobbled them up and are now looking for more

yup they love em lol, its great watching betta fry stalk them, before eating them lol

  and then they pounce. I noticed with the microworm that they would flick them up off the floor to eat them...it's great to see them doing well anyway, even if I've only got a few left :D

i have had endless trouble trying to hatch brine shrimp, i finally managed to do it but cant separate them from the egg shells

so i dumped them all and bought one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=320233861980

now i get hatched brineshrimp every time and there decapsulated so thats a bonus.

then i decided i didnt like putting the salt water in the tank so i got one of these today
