Hi i need some help on how to breed clown fish i have not set up my tank yet and thought i would use the time inbetween ordering and reciving to think about my best options.

If you get 4 clowns as juveniles will one become female and the other male, and will the male and female breed without getting sort of terotorial with the :good:others and will they attack or eat the eggs or when they have just hatched.
also whch type of clown are the easyest to breed and how long if you get juveniles does it take for them to mature.

TY :thanks:

You should have a look on google lots of info (if you put forum at the end you will get other people doing the same like clownfish breeding forum etc) I am intrested in doing the same so it would be good to have some info.

Thanks

I have been reading around but these are just a few points that have remained unanswerd in my search. They say that they are easy but which are the easyest some get large and some can be quite agressive and is 4 ok to breed or do they have more chance of success in a pair.

Firstly you should be thinking about rearing the fry. If you feel you can rear them go for it, If not then just keep as pair for the intrest.

This is really basic and there is loads more to it and it's not easy.

You need to be thinking of getting some large clear jar's to culture then alga's needed to rear the larvae on, you can by the culture kits off ebay and the algae, as if you not going to do this then it's pointless even trying as you never rear the fry.
Also your need to be hatching brine shrimp, which don't feed for 3 days as they use up their yolk sac, once thats used up you can then feed them algae's that's needed and omega3 supplements.

You also should be thinking of a good rearing tank, something where quite a flow rate so you don't push them around to much.
You need to place a good light in the middle of the tank, and the larva will stay under the light in a group, making it easier to feed them.

Then all you need is a pair like u say and hope they breed :)

Good luck

As said (and similar to most SW fish) getting the parents to spawn and breed is not a problem really.

It's raising the fry that causes the problems. There are a coupple of good books on breeding clowns. I would recommend doing a good read of someone who has been successful. Otherwise, a google search of the RC fora might give some good results.

if you want to breed them you will have to have a few tanks set up for the fry and feeding, but 4 would not work out for breeding as the pair would get very aggresive, just get a pair or make a pair.

would it be ok to have other speicies of fish in the tank?

If you want to breed anything you never keep anything else with them.

If you really want to do it, pick up a copy of "Clownfish" by Joyce Wilkerson. It's the bible on clownfish breeding from everything I've ever heard/read

ok thanks for the advice not shure weather i will try and breed because i am not shure about raising the fry food and getting the kit to do it.
