I've read about a lot of signs that help you see when a pregnant guppy will give birth. I was wondering which signs you look for.

I'm a newbie at all this, and never had fry. But one of my females has a kinda squarish tummy, and she doesn't eat much, so I've put her in a breeding net (that I've made myself, but it seems to be ok)
I'm just hoping she doesn't have to stay in there for too long.

So, just sum up all the birth-signs you have experienced :)

Hi there :D

Your female will look really bloated and her Gravid spot will be evident, this is the fry in her. Usually your female, will seek solitude amongst plants, or up in a corner of the tank, if her behavior changes, I'd pop her in the breeding net to make sure..
Pop some Java moss in there as well so your fry can feed of Infusoria

Good luck

one thing to add-
Don't net her out as soon as she starts acting weird. This usually results in stillborn batches. So she should be in the breeding net for a week before birth, ideally. So if she has a squarish tummy, then she should probably go in now.
Good luck with the fry!!!

Signs? well here ya go :D :
1. Stomach is very big, almost squarish/flat at the bottom of the belly
2. Female is not as active, and often swims slower(I'm sure you wouldn't move too fast either with 30 kids inside you  )
3. She will want to rest in a shaded/ planted areas to feel secure and to escape any pestering males. Floating plants by the top would be the good idea ;)
4. Her genitals(near her anal fin) will sort of protrude out/ look swollen. This is best sign to look for. When this occors i know my female(s) will give birth within 24 hrs.
5. Gravid spot is large and dark black.

Don't think I missed anything besides feed her lots during her pregnancy(mine love bloodworms), especially afterwards as well b/c after giving birth to 30 kids burns alot of calories and she will be hungry and need an energy boost :p
Hope everything goes well
Also, here's pictures of my female guppy 2 hrs before she had babies: http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?sh...opic=25750&st=0

thanx a lot for the replies, but I still have a some questions

the gravid spot has gone a little lighter actually, kinda red
she's still fat
and (this may be an optic illusion) I saw little black spots in there
also she poos like transparent stuff
and she doesn't eat
otherwise she looks fine
is all this normal?
(she's not as fat as the one in your picture)

oh, I forgot to ask something: if I miss the birth, say it happens in the morning, and I come home in the evening, is it possible all the fry are eaten?
she's in a breeder net (selfmade, hope the holes aren't too big)

okay the fry should be coming soon just like my guppy, she will have fry pretty soon and if shes not as fat as the guppy in the pic its probably cuz that pic is zoomed in so you really gotta judge yourself or look out side the box lol hopefully that helps anymore questions just pm me ill be glad to help :D
