My baby boy Ceasar seems to be shedding a whole lot. There are lots of skin flakes floating around on the surface of the tank.

Stats:

2.5 gallon

One male Betta.

He is also suffering from persistant fin rot. How do I get rid of the flakes?

I have been doing weekly water changes with a gravel vac.

The tank is filtered and mature. Nitrite 0.

EDIT: So I am going to get some medicine for him. Which brands available here in the US for fin rot? At how much of a dose?

I dont know anythings about scales falling off but for tail rot.... its not really advisable to use a medicine... I suggest using aquarium salt. If you really want to use a medicine i suggest using BettaFix remedy. Also, Make sure that its tail rot 8)

Melafix is good for fin rot, but only use 10 drops per gallon as bettas are sensitive to it.

Tetracyline is a pretty good one you can find in PetSmart. Its about $10 around here. I hope your bettas case of finrot goes away soon.

Jungle brand Fungus Eliminator can be hard to find, but it's the only thing I've ever found that seems to help fin rot. And of course make sure your water stays sparkling clean.
