Hello,
This is my first day here. I hope I came to the right place.
I need help finding a good light to bring out my fish colors. I have a 40gl tank with 1 discus and 2 angles. Also, something that will not help algae to grow since I am have this problem (brown tough algae). I think it's the light, I need a new one. I have on the coralife 10k 96watts, which I use when my tank was planted but gave away the plant due to baby on the way. Any info will be apprecaited
Thank you,

Welcome.

you need light to grow your plants ( if any real plants) so what i did is bought 2 Bristle nose plecs. and they cleand up all my algea!

No onto your stocking either Rehome the discus. or Rehome the two angels and get 3/4 more discus.

this needs to be done soon!

Gl and welcome :)

i have 10w of lighting on one half of my 10 gallon tank and i still get brown algae, so imo it's not due to low lighting.

I had my fish for 18months now with no problem. Dont see why I need to rehome them.

the thing is, its not the case of no problem its te case of almost cruelty. Discus live in shaoals of hundreds and in tanks they should be kept in numbers of 4+ pref 6 to get there full colours size chracters and not feel left out. where as angels they live on ther wn or with a mate. your discus is probably very un happy inside where you cant see it. just do whats best for the fish.

Thats an easy one to answer. Your tanks not big enough!!!!!!!!

So if it not the light then could it be the nutrient in the tank. I clean my tank weekly (25%) and clean plastic plants cause they get so much brown algae. Looks nasty! This is fraustrating, my tank look clean only for 2 days and algae invades. I even added something to my filter to control nitrate and phosphate. Well for now I will change the light, it's old and that the most logic answered.
Thank you

changing the light wont make a huge impact withyou type of algea buy some algea eaters Eg. otos or Bristlenose plecs. also this is real harsh on your discus. please find him a new home or the angels a new home and get 3/4 more discus. please. i care about the welfare of fish and as a discus owner i once had to treat a discus with a tiny bit of whitespot in a hosp tank and his colours went as he wasnt triving. but now he is thriving like anything with his buddies please do something.
