I need to buy a filter for a tank I've been given. It's 3' x 1' x 15" - about 106L. Which would be the best filter - a new Interpet PF-4 which looks very convenient, or an Eheim 2213+ external canister filter? The Eheim is only about £10 more expensive and I know they are meant to be the dog's....... Are canister filters much better in terms of performance, or is a top end internal as good as a cheap external?

Or has someone got a spare one going free that they'd like to give me??

Any advice gratefully received.

Sarah

i like aqua clear filters, they are cheap and work great and dont require lots of cleaning. at pet solutions they have AQ 500's for 31 dollars.

you can pick up eheim 2213 on ebay for ~£25. They will run forever and its easy to get new spare parts online IF anything goes wrong. The run totally silent, you can fit about 3L of filter media into it - which is so much bigger than an internal. Plus you get all the space back in the tank, which in my opinion is worth the extra dosh.

I clean mine every 6 months or so, and even then its usually just the fine floss thats mucky!!

They are basically such a good simple design that the havent changed in decades

TOP OF THE LINE - EHEIM!!!!!!!

they should give me a job

Cant go wrong with Eheims, i use the 2217 and 2215 models on all my larger tanks. Nice simple design and extremely effective without any silly gadgets to break and go wrong.
