I personally like crown tails the best but with bettas does it really matter if they're gonna be by themselves anyways. Are veiltails better or all the other kinds?

It depends what you want.

Do you want a nice showy fish then a larger than VT will be best. If you want a nice betta who gets around nice then get a VT if you want a very quick able bodied betta go for a plakat (any tail type).

Me personally I'd pick the colours you like over tail type, I've had a VT and I have a half moon plakat - I picked both based on their colouration and in fairness the VT picked me and he was such a little character .
