I have just added some new additions to my tank that have been given to me by my brother. He has a Juwel tank, 70 litre which has its original internal filter inside. The outlet pipe is pointing upwards and towards the back of the tank, which seems to suit his fish and the tank fine.
This led me to have a look at my tank and internal filter as I have noticed recently that my poor Angel has a bit of trouble sometimes fighting against my filter, which can lead it to lean to one side, looking like it is swimming slightly horizontally. I have been having a mess about and have turned down the flow of the filter, but I don't want this to in turn mean I have more poop on the substrate!
I have a Fluval U4 filter and have positioned the outlet so that it is slightly upwards but points toward the front of the tank slightly, as if it is going diagonally across the tank. I was told to this by a fish keeper years ago as a way of preventing as much algae built up, and also to ensure the surface of the tank ripples all the way across to keep up oxygenation. I have a 125 litre tank and bought the U4 purposely to over filter the tank as the previous Plus 3 didn't seem to do the job.
Anyone else got a similar set up to me and can give and pointers on how they have their filter set up?
