Bert has a like bubble covering his eye! Is it popeye? What shall i do?

He is in a 25 liter tank and has been for about 3 months with weekly water changes

Ammonia is 0
Nitrite is 0
nitrate is about 10
Temp is 27-28

I have some WS3, some king british fin rot and fungus, some melafix and some pimafix to hand will any of these help??

Hi, Hayleamorgan,
sorry to hear about Bert, it does sound like popeye and I hope an expert will be along shortly to help, since I'm not one and moreover have no idea about what's available in Britain for meds.
Really just wanted to offer a little emotional support and wish you the best of luck in clearing his trouble up fast.

Thank you for your reply. I have done a 90% water change to get water as clean a poss (that was a nightmare, emptied tank and went to fill up a claen bucket of water to find the water had been turned off! lucky he is at work so i could use the water filter!) but have not got any suitable meds at the mo.
He is not off his food at all gobbled up all his pellets a min ago!

Hi, Hayleamorgan,
how's Bert doing today?
As the forum's pretty dead these days, you might try posting in the emergency forum, see if you can get hold of an expert there, which should be easier.
If you do, I hope you'll check back and let us know how it goes.
I know Athena recommended some type of antibiotic which worked really well on popeye in one of her fish - and I had the name written down in my notes (although the med. may not be available where I am, in Canada) and do you think I can remember it? Or find notes in the pile I'm sure they were stacked in?
(Of course it's after 3 AM here, which might explain a lot.
Not saying it does, lol, but I'll use it if I can.)
Maybe Athena, LauraFrog or someone else equally helpful will show up in the interrim.
Popeye can actually appear due to various causes, but infection is often a major suspect, although trauma can be as well.
I'm NOT an expert, but until one shows up, if you're not adding meds, a split dose of Melafix and Pimafix should act to help prevent infection/fungus if it is physical trauma, help with potential infections, and aid healing - and they're not toxic, although I don't generally give full med doses to potentially med-sensitive bettas, tetras/rasboras, cats/plecs...
And if there is any chance of injury being a cause, I'd be very reluctant to give massive water changes, unless he'll otherwise be left too long stewing in his own juice, so to speak.

What is WS3, if I may ask?
Is it an antibiotic?

Hi Syphoniera
Thanks for your reply. I will give him the Melafix and Pimafix to try and help. To be honest it is looking a little better today and all i did was the water change with no meds added yesterday. Its not quite as big and not quite as cloudy.

WS3 is a white spot med that is very strong by King british. You only need a couple of drops of it and it turns the tank blue. Ingredients are Malachite green, acriflavine, and quinine sulphate.

I have been in the emergency forum and wilder has been helping. She has recommended a med but i cannot get to get it. I have ordered it off ebay but with xmas and everything it mite take a while to get here.

Thank gawd you have Wilder working on this!
Can't hope for better, although there are lots of other excellent, experienced people on the forum.
That WS3 sounds like a good ich med. - can't get it here in Canada, of course...
I didn't realize the poor little guy had cloudy eye, but glad to hear it's looking a bit better and with luck it'll be entirely well soon.
Appreciate the update, and hope you'll keep us posted.
Lotsa luck.
