I have 4 shrimp in my planted tank and one has been berried for what seems like months. We didn't make a note, but we're fairly sure since April at least. We look at her every day and they've never gone. Every so often the males have their crazy half hour of tearing around the tank, which I understand is to do with hormones.
Does it do her any harm to be carrying the eggs this long? What might be preventing her from dropping them?
I've tried researching this online, but most places say they lay in 2-4 weeks.

Well fed amanos tend to be sedate, hungry amanos tend to move about the tank actively in search of food.

I would not worry, they (offspring) do not survive in fw.

Do the eggs change colour? I found that they did, newly laid eggs are olive green and become paler as they get near hatching.
When I had amanos the females were always carrying eggs but the colour lightened over a few weeks, then back to the darker colour again. I always assumed the eggs hatched and the female promptly released a new batch of eggs so she seemed constantly berried.

She seemed a different colour a couple of days ago, sort of a coppery sheen to her and sometimes the eggs are lighter than other times. Your theory would make sense and good to hear of other shrimp constantly berried, thanks :)
The zooming around isn't the normal scuttling, looking for food. It's crazy formula 1 style racing round and round and round and round the tank for ages!
