Hey;

I bought 6 neons a few months back; they were all very small at the time but I noticed one was slightly bent in shape!

Over the last few weeks the neons have developed well, however, the runt of the neons seems to have got worse. Due to it increasing in size she seems to be having more difficulty swimming. I took it out last night and put it in a jar to have a good look at it.

There appears to be no sists or discolouration so I returned it to the tank.

What could this be; I've heard of NTD but its been like this for over a week; the rest are fine though

How quickly does NTD kill a neon?

please help!

as the neon has been like this since tiny then its probably a birth defect, which is really common and usually these fish are culled when young. its up to you if you want her to continue to live like this.

I agree with black angel, sorry, make sure they don't lose there colour in the red stripe.

She doesn't seem to be in distress, I have been keeping a close eye on her though. I was going to kill it but I cant! The bloody thing only cost me 60p and I cant bear to chop its head off....

I was thinking of flushing but thats just as cruel! do you think my LFS would do something with it for me?

or do you think I should put it out of its misery?

if its not distressed then why get rid of it? im sure it can have a full and active life however it looks.

I heard clove oil nails them, or puts them to sleep.

you could alwyas hire a contract killer hitfish.
(might cost more than your 60p already spent though)

Ok joking apart though. if he is swimming fine and eating then keep him.
