i've just noticed that a couple of my 2 week old fry have badly "kinked" bodies. The kink is in the middle of the fish's body and makes the tail point upwards at about 45 degrees to the horizontal. i'm not sure if these are birth abnormalities or a result of near misses with the danios, but what do i do? at the moment they are in the fry tank, but i'm thinking of putting them in the main tank and letting nature take its course, although now that they are 2 weeks old, they may be too much of a meal for my other fish.

if they are birth abnormalities, are they a result of in-breeding?

any ideas/comments?

well with the dispriction sunds like they are birth abnormalities. :(

feeding poor quialty foods can cause bends but never seen 45 degree, sounds more like inbreeding.

What food do u feed?

If possible feed live foods and the best in newly hatched brine shrimp for fry.

Hi,
we had 2 that were bent like yours, with mine it was birth abnormalitys, but im sure it can happen with inbreeding as well, i put ours down using ice cold water it took seconds, to be honest its for the best if they are female and are put in with males they would get a lot of hassle, and if they got pregnant i cant see them surviving the pregnancy  .

i've only had these guppies 3 weeks, so don't know what they were fed at the lfs. Since i've had them, they're on Nutrafin flake as a staple and once a week either frozen daphnia, cucumber. Just started feeding peas as well. I've been feeding the fry on Liquifry no 2, and finely groung flake.

the guppy that bore the affected fry gave birth the day after i bought her, so i'm not sure if she was stressed with the move.

i have put the bent guppies in the main tank but they seem very adept at avoiding being eaten. Maybe it's natural selection happening in my very own living room. I'll breed the kinked ones and create my own strain of guppies. i'm joking of course. :p

I have 2 fry having that problem too. they are a bout a month old. Both are "hunchback", but they live happily in my community tank.

I am just not sure what caused this...

THis is my first batch of guppy fry, they all turn out to be different colours, red, blue green and mixture of colours in the same batch. The mother is having yellow and red tail while the father is blue. But I found this very interesting... :)

I had this happen several times when I had guppies. In my fish what caused it was when she took too long getting it out or if it got stuck. Mine lived full lives, but were unable to have fry. I hope this helps.
