I have a Bengal Loach (Botia Dario) that used to be very active until I moved to my new apartment. He now hides in a small cave all the time, and if I try to come close to the tank when he's out, he turns around and hides again. I bought him at one LFS, and when I asked another LFS about his new shyness, he informed me that Bengal Loaches are very mean fish and that their store will not stock them. I never saw him act aggressively towards my other fish (guppies and danios).

I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with this kind of fish. I would love to hear any info you could share.

Many loaches when kept alone will be shy, and to a certain extent nocturnal. Normally keeping a group of at least 3 keeps them active.

loaches will be pretty shy without "buddies" so a lone loach isn't reccomend, I'd get him a couple buddies.

I have a dario loach.......He was lonely in a shop tank, all by himself,so I added him to my collection of rescue loaches....and he's just fine. They do prefer to have friends of their own genus but mine do just fine as missmatches.
Alot of people say that dario loaches can be aggressive.......but ,to date, mine hasn't been.HTH.

ah, another person that practically has a loach resque program going

My loaches all pall around, no matter the species. Like my yoyo loaches love to hang out with my clown loaches.
