Hey guys ^_^
I'm totally new to Tropical fish keeping, I got my tank last week and my fish only yesterday, and I'm only 15 so all I've kept before is a couple of goldfish, but my dad is experienced with lots of types of fish!
It's 48L and I have 4 Guppies, 5 Cardinal Tetra and 2 Clown Loaches, they seem to have settled in really nicely, the tank's been cycled as well.
Also I have plenty of ornament-type things for them to hide in and stuff!
I was just wondering what types of fish you recommend for my size tank etc? I'm aiming for a peaceful community aquarium with brightly coloured, interesting to look at fish, and I'm going to buy some more in about two weeks.
I've had a look at various Tropical fish websites and have decided on my favourites, so I don't know if the names are right but here they are;
Albino Corycat
Dwarf Gourami
Kribensis
Killifish
Amano Shrimp
Albino Pleco
and also I was thinking of getting 4 more Cardinal Tetras and 2 more Clown Loaches to increase the colourful effect!
Do you think these fish would be appropriate all living together?
Thanks in advance!
P.s Fish are so cool! I don't know why I didn't start this earlier ^_^

Hi and welcome to the forum! Great to hear your tank is cycled and is all up and running.

I would advise to get the extra cardinal tetra as they do well in groups. But the clown loach i would strongly advise against. Clown loach can grow very big indeed, probably as long as your tank is, and i would say to re home the ones you currently have.

Most the fish you have listed, will do well in a tank of your size. But have you looked into apistogrammas?
they are a dwarf cichlid, much like the kribenis, but are from south america. But really it comes down to which fish is your favourite.

Also welcome to the forum!!

Thanks for the quick reply and advice! I didn't realise the Clown Loaches grew to be so big, it's weird that the man in the shop let me buy them..

I'm afraid that's typical of an awful lot of LFS (local fish shops) :(

Best way is to go and see what fish you like the look of and then come home and research them online (or ask here;) )

awww welcome to the forum. Yeah as said the clowns get way too big. You have cardinal tetra and they are a lovely colourful fish so are your guppies. Something I've seen lately in my lfs is neon green rasboras. They stay small and are a bright neon green colour. I soooo wanted them lol. They'd be really nice in with your cardinals and guppys.

Killifish are nice too b you have to get the right speciies as some can be agressive. I have 3 but the only trouble with them colour wise is that the males are the only ones that are colourful. The females are very dull and you need 2 females to every one male.

Thanks for all the advice! :) The neon green rasboras look cool!
I'm going to ring the fish shop today to find out about the Clown loaches

Hi Jessynut! Welcome to the forum. You will find lots of good advice on here when you need it. Since no one else mentioned it, you said you only got your tank recently, and your fish one day ago. But that your dad is knowledgeable. Just curious if he put already cycled media in your tank's filter? If so you should be fine. But if the filter media is as new as the tank, you will want to closely monitor your tank water stats to make sure ammonia and nitrite levels are not too high.

Getting a new stock of fish is always fun - I hope it goes well for you!

you will learn very quickly that the shops dont have as much collective knowledge as we do here together, and we are NOT trying to make money off you, but to help your FISH!

a quick google search will give you some size ideas for your clown loach, and as cool as they are looking, they get big! and they need a nice shoal size, and they need lots of swimming room!

welcome to the forum! youre in good hands.
