I just bought a used tank from someone but me being the ditz I am didnt ask the exact gallon size, and I dont have any gallon jugs around. I think it is around fifteen but I'm not sure, it is a hexagonal plexiglass 20"tall, and each side panel is 9" (being a hexagon it has six) so aprox. 54" around. Can anyone tell me exactly how many gallons this is?

It also cam with an undergravel filter, but I have heard a lot of different oppinions about these. So are they good or bad for a biginner. This is my very first tank so I really appreciate the help.

Thanks all.
:D

im guessing the tank is about 20gallons but i could be wrong

about the undergravel filter: i think its best to get a hang on type because cleaning the undergravel filter will basically mean removing everything from inside the tank including the gravel and the getting rid of the waste from the bottom of the tank

hang on filters a much easier to clean and do a much better job at keeping the water clear

After some much convoluted maths based on working out the area of your tank base. Multiplying that by the height and then putting the figures into google. I reckon your tank is around 14 - 15 US gallons. Using a bucket with a measure on the side to check would be advisible though. With a small tank like that a HOB filter would definitely be a good idea. Something like a Penguin Biowheel although I haven't got experience of these myself.

Also, please fishless cycle your tank before adding any fish using the add & wait method from the link in my sig.

:good:
