Welcome!

There are some great pinned topics on here, and you should be able to find out alot of useful information.

Regular, partial water changes are going to be key. Also, stocking your tank properly is also an important factor to tank health. I am affraid to say, that your current stocking is too much for a ten gallon. Tiger barbs need a bigger tank than a ten gallon, since they are very active swimmers, grow to over 2 inches, and need to be in a group.

Hello and welcome to fishkeeping

have a look through the beginners resource centre, loads of info to help you there

yeah dixaisy is right, sensible stocking of a tank will keep it manageable, your tiger barbs are going to get too big for your tank and this could cause you problems down the line.

As for your own health, the best thing you can do for yourself is basic hygiene. Wash your hands when they've been in the tank, try not to do tank maintenance if you have open sores, but if you do be extra careful to clean yourself afterwards. Fish tb is not quite as bad as it sounds, you're not going to be coughing your lungs out in a sanatorium, it's not related to human tb, but is a bacterial infection that is treatable with antibiotics. The other possible risk (as always when dealing with pets) is salmonella. Again, basic hygiene is the clue: always wash your hands after handling the tank (or other pets) and try to avoid starting the suction on the syphon by sucking at it; this is totally unnecessary.

Hey, i am also new to this awsome hobby.

I have 13g tank and i have overstocked it with Tiger barbs (6 tigers, 3bs's and 3 bleeding hearts) what you can do is take your fishes (tigers) back to your lfs and exchange them with for smaller fishes...... or maybe some more bleeding hearts?

I am going to do this on saturday. After reading many threads on this site i now know its harmefull to keep the tigers in such a small tank. Your lfs will be happy to exchange them as long as they are still healthy.

Overstocking is what all newbies do and is the main problem with a new tank .. honest iv done it.
