I am so excited! I just went to petco for my weekly shopping and was just looking at the fish tanks and saw a new tank that they just got in stock. I went over and it said 75 gallons, I looked at the price and it was 180 dollars! It was cheaper than the 55 gallon tank I had just bought!

I am not going to let this pass up. I cant wait to decorate it! It is going to be so fun!

But any way, I went and started lookin at the fish and noticed fish I hadent noticed before. I saw a Beautiful fire track eel, Beautiful oscars, Beautiful pictus cats, Beautiful balas, and so on...

Oh how am I going to choose! I am definatly going to get one of the fire track eels but I was wondering what fish could go with them in a 75 gallon. I like the sound of cichlids, but I could go for any type of fish.

By the way the tank is gorgous! I am going to post pics when I get it all set up and running.

But in the meantime please help me pick! :D Any suggestions would be helpfull!

Fire eel's get to big by far. As do bala's and you could have one oscar alone with maybe one other small(ish) fish.

In the wild I think it's 3-4 foot, in tanks normally 2 foot maybe abit bigger.

Also i'd try and move your stocking in you 55g around before getting more fish.

I wanted one for the 120g I plan soon, it's just still not big enough, looking at 180g+ for a fire eel.

Okay, my friend just gave me her old 15 gallon tank and I plan on moving the tetras into it. I also am putting the corys into my 29g and the platys and mollys too. So that will get my 55 gallon leveled out. I want to put the red tailed shark in the 75g so who could go with her? The fire track eels are out of the question now since they get too big. Suggestions please! :D

Any suggestions please! :) I am not sure what can go with a red tailed shark. Any one know? -_-

loaches, small tetras and ottos are the only things ive found to be alright with the rtb so far.

The tetras and ottos seem to be to small for it to be botherd about, and the loaches can stick up for them selves.

Mine used to pick on my balas, so i put them in another tank. So it decided to pick on the next biggest thing which was my red line torpedos. So i put the balas back in the tank and moved the rtb to a tank with smaller fish in it.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Maybe I will get the rtb her own tank so I can have more choices of fish for the 75g. Yeah thats what I am going to do. Any suggestions? :D

*Sigh*

75G tanks are awful. I have one, so I'm not just trying to make you feel bad. I got mine for free, so I'm not going to complain, but it's gone through three stages. First I went with African cichlids (haps and peacocks, not mbuna), then I decided to go oddball (BGK, bichir, etc...), and it ended up being a high end brackish tank, which is still in its infancy with small fish.

The problem I have with a 75g tank is it seems really big, so you immediately think "BIG FISH!" But at least with me, the big fish I wanted got too big. I think my advice to anyone starting a 75g tank would be to go for a moderately planted community. Think a couple schools of rasboras or interesting tetras, a couple pairs of dwarf cichlids, a couple interesting, smaller plecs, a lot of shrimp, some snails. You could fit a lot of smaller fish in there and make it really interesting.

I just had the idea of having a tank with angels and a couple of rams and cordoras. Would that be okay? :D

That site gives out some bad advice.
