These beanie boxes that I keep reading about on this forum - How much water do they hold? Do you keep youngsters only in them, up to what age/size? Can you use them short term for adults, quarantine, hospital etc?
How do you heat them?

Sorry about the long list.

I put 6 girls in my community tank a couple of days ago. Took 1 out straight away as she was looking quite droopy and put her in 17L tank next to boy's tank. She has now perked up and is eating well. Today another is droopy and hiding but I only had a mini tank. So I've put her in it with the water from comm tank and some weed. Put it on top of comm tank for heat from light etc [room not cold though] and she has had a few flakes, the first I've seen her eat. Seems happy atm. Obv don't think this is suitable for too long but prob better than than before, she is quite small.

The list above was mainly to compare my mini tank to those boxes, as the tanks are quite cheap to buy. And to know their suitability, or not, for the various things.

I have never seen those beanie boxes only in pictures. If you want small tanks Wilkos do one for £4.99.
What are your girls like? I bought one today and she is very stressed. Her colour has faded as well, but she has eaten. Usually the males sulk for 24 hours but she isnt sulking just striped!

from what i hear, they hold 1/4 gallon water and are use to hold fish TEMPORARILY or to raise males to adult size.

Thanks for replies. I realise the small tanks are only a temp measure for adults, but I've seen pictures of ranks of small boxes, so I presumed they were ok for youngsters when the males have to be seperated off. I may be wrong and I've not bred any yet. I would like to breed some though and like to be well prepared for everything and not panicking at the last minute that I've nowhere to keep them. So this is really part of my research.

Liz, my girls are probably mutts as they came from a lfs, but I think they're lovely. They are all various shades of dark red, maroon, with either blue or turquoise. Some have gone stripey now like yours, so it's difficult to see their colour properly. I probably won't breed any of these though as I may find it difficult to get rid of them, unless they were an unusual colouring. I'm waiting to find some halfmoons I think.
