we have BBG eggs! :hyper:

Its so cute, there are loads of them in the shell i put in the tank for them, and the male is guarding them.
Plus, now i can see little black spots inside them which im presuming is the fry to be. I hope to raise at least some.

hopefully you can see the little black spots in them,

p.s. if it comes up with that "click to view full image" thing then click and you should be able to see the spots better

Very cute! Keep us posted how things turn out. Probably time to get some live foods going, for when they hatch. I think they need infusorians and such.

Cheers, Neale

Congratulations!
I've never seen BBG fry before, so it'll be interesting to see how they end up
I'm thinking of breeding them myself.

Looks great, what is the red plant next to it? Similar to a tiger lotus?

thanks for the comments. Yeah im going to have to gather some algae from lakes and stuff so they can feed of the little bugs. The black spots are even more noticable now, they should hatch either this evening or tomorrow evening so im going to seperate them.

The red plant next to it is tiger lotus, i bought them as bigger plants a while back and they kind of died but they are now gradually coming back, although the ones in my FW tank are growing faster

just thought i might as well update the thread here as well. These are as of this morning.

im presuming those black spots are eyes?

I'm sure you've seen this, but if not, the best report on rearing baby bumblebees is by gobiologist Naomi Delventhal, here:

A useful tip is that boiled egg yolk can work well, at least in the short term.

Cheers, Neale

thanks neale, but dont you mean unboiled, just strained?

Im going to have to get a breeding trap/net thing for them in the early stages, as i dont really have a tank that is small enough with heating or filtration, but would this be ok?

Err... not sure. What does Naomi say in the thing? If in doubt, join that goby mailing list. it's very good, and I'm not sure anywhere on the web has the same mix of goby-centric fishkeepers and scientists.

Cheers, Neale

Strained egg yolk can sometimes work for a day or two if
the aeration is adjusted to keep it lightly suspended, but it causes too
much waste buildup in the tank to be very practical long term.

i suppose she must mean roar :dunno:

thanks again neale

oh ok thanks fknm :good: do you boil it to make it hardboiled or still liquid? I think I will be feeding infusoria off plants in ponds etc though for the first week or so.

Just to let you know they are hatching, there are 1 or 2 swimming around in the net now, although theres another 1 that appears to be swimming around lifelessly :/ I suppose quite a few do die when they are very young.

Egg yolk for baby fish:

Egg yolk is a wonderful fish food for small baby fish. To feed it do the following:
Hardboil an egg. Take a little piece of the yolk(maybe 1/20), and do whatever you want with the rest( I suggest eating it) Take the yold and pit it into a piece of cloth about 4in by 4in(for all normal metric people it is 10cm by 10cm). Put the yolk in the middle and fold it into a "bag". Then screw the end of the bag so a bit of the yolk goes through the fabric and dip it in the tank with the fry. Then put the rest into the fridge for the next time, but be sure to replace the yolk in a few days so it does not spoil.

I've often used egg yolk to feed my corydoras fry and it's always worked fine for me. Just make sure not to use too much of it does polute the water quite quickly. Then again, in fry tanks it's usually recommended to at least change part of the water each day. Believe it had something to do with there being some sort of growth hormon in the water that gets used up *shrugs*. Really no clue about that, it's just what I've been told.
