Hallooo :)

I am new here and new to the world of tropical fish! It is all very exciting and I have learned so much in such a short space of time... it is fascinating!!

Anyhow...

I dont know how many gallons or litres our tank is... it is two feet long, about a foot deep.. or wide (from front to back) and about a foot and a quarter from top to bottom.. any ideas on gallons? that wasnt my main question.

My question was....
I have a very pretty male siamese fighter called Bazil who was fairly expensive.... apparently he is bred from some show fish. He was all alone for a few days in our tank.

Today I added some live plants and some small ornament type things... and some friends... I wasnt entirely sure how they'd get on but the pet shop said its fine to take any he doesnt get on with back and change them for something else.

SOOO... in my tanky... I now have...

1 males betta (Bazil)
2 Dwarf Gouramis
5 Fancy Guppies
10 Emperor Tetras.

I was worried that bazil would attack the guppies... hes not fussed at all... does not even go near them!! I thought he would be ok with the gouramis (both male) but he seems to have taken a disliking to one of them (the larger of the two).
He doesnt attack him... he just flares up and swims at him. The gourami just swims off... occasionally he creeps up on bazil but as soon as bazil flares up again, he swims away from bazil.

Soooo I just wondered... should I take the gouramis back? At present he is not attacking them. I am wondering if its just because theyre similar in size at the moment.... when the gourami gets bigger, might he leave him alone?

What would you do? See how it goes or not risk it and take the gouramis back?

I am inclined to keep them as it has made the whole tank much busier but I dont want any fish to get harmed.

Puzzled!!! help?

I suggest moving Bazil to his own 3-5 gal tank. Bettas are fighting fish and will attack most other anabantoids and colorful fish. Thats just how they are, they are much better suited to living in their own tank.

Your tank sound like its around 20-29 gallons. Also did you cycle the tank at all?

I am assuming I didnt as I have no idea what you are on about...
I left the tank up running for about a week and took a water sample to the aquarium and they tested it for me and said it was ok.

what is cycling?
