Over the years, I have noticed that this hobby seems to be more male dominant, than female. This especially pertains to predatory fish, which is what I love, and I find it weird that I am one of the few girls (just by browsing the forums) who are interested in these species.

So, this curiosity has led me to make this very very long poll, but I am really interested in what guys are most interested in and what girls are most interested in. Please choose what you KEEP, not what you would "like to get one day." Please check only the ones that really pertain to you. For example, I keep different community fish, but I specialize in oddballs, predatory fish, other catfish and new world cichlids.

EDIT: Please make sure you click the "I'm a guy/girl" under the other sex's question, otherwise there will be an error when you try to submit the answers. :) Also, I'm sorry I had to combine the livebearers for anyone who only keeps the rare or common... there weren't enough slots for answers!

I'm a guy, and I'm a catfishaholic. I keep medium sized catfish, (8-20 inches), predatory characins, new world cichlids, plecostomus and oddballs. My favorite would be the family Auchenipteridae, or driftwood catfish.

I would like say I mainly keep NW cichlids, as thats what I find most interest in (especially breeding), though I do have my share of predatory fish, I also keep guppies, endlers and shrimp.
EDIT: I'm a boy.

Its funny because the fish i have most of are catfish but they are almost all predatory so i clicked the predatory option.

Interesting results. I'm still the only girl with preds, but the guys seem to mostly keep those. Also, livebearers, plecos, and new world cichlids are the girls' favorites, while the boys seem to enjoy new worlds (as well), cyprinids, characins and athernids, and preds.

I know there are more of you all out there! C'mon and vote!

Female here.

Wasn't really sure what category to put as I've got 'preds' (bichirs), anabantoids (P. cupanus and dayi and a couple of betta sp.), NW cichlid (sev), cyprinids (garra) and characins (congo tetra).

But primarily I love my Clarotidae. The dwarf giraffes, and the wonderful Parauchenoglanis loennbergi. So I went for other cats.

I've got similar numbers of cyprinids, cories, other cats, NW cichlids and oddballs so I had to tick all of those.

Oh and I'm male.

I'm a dude. When I was younger and first started keeping fish I was in to predatory fish. Then after doing that for a few years I tried oddballs. Now I'm perfectly happy keeping small mellow fish and snails. I must be getting old!

hey I came over today..hehe

well Im a girl, started out with the livebearers and have moved onto bettas because the liverbearers piss me off.

I hate seeing them chase down and eat babies, even if I catch a mom giving birth, place her in a breeding tank, I still must stand by and beat her off with a net to keep her from pushing out a baby and instantly whipping around and eating it before it is even has a chance to swim away.
