i was looking at the same thing a few days ago.i believe some are deformed,but alot of them are cut in my opinion.you can tell in some pics.there are big white odd looking ridges on the edge of the ray

its a fairly common birth defect.believe it or not these rays fetch high prices and are quite sought after in certain circles.
ive never heard of people cutting rays but it would not surprise me

It is a deformity, and yes people pay top dollar for these monstrosities

I prefer the normals myself, but you pays your money..........

Yeah, it's just a rare mutation, etc.

Sadly, I personally don't like anything about that "look", and those individuals look like they have an extreme case of it.

I dont know why people will pay more for a mutated, selectively bred, dyed or GM fish; what exactly is wrong with the 'normal' fish?
Apart from the mutation, its a good looking ray with great markings.
