i brought a female betta the other day to replace one that had died of old age, when i got her home i put her in my males tank (in the bag still) and within 30- 60 seconds she hat vertical stripes along her body, both were very excited. (the male already had a bubble nest on the go)
i was just wondering do females normaly respond that quickly to a male or do they just realy like eachother!!?

If they are in breeding condition and full of eggs they can respond in that way almost instantaneous!

sounds like stress stripes to me. males and females should never be kept together for the long haul. if you plan on breeding you should wait til she's settled i her OWN tank and condition the pair. then chimney her in the breeding tank and SUPERVISE the spawning.
if all seems well now, you might just end up with a dead betta  more likely than not.
cheers

i thought stress stripes were horizontal?

stresss stripes this way ----------- breeding the way IIIIIIII

Wow, I thought it took longer  but I've never bred bettas. Good luck.

Some females will bar up very quickly, some just don't show any interest, all depends on the bettas themselves and how attracted and eggy they are x
