HI

Looking to start a tank with 6ish green tiger barbs.

Are they Aggresive when in larger groups and do they work with Cherry barbs.

Was thinking of a 2-3ft tank.

Thanks

What fish could go with them?

Was thinking of some small tetras or cherry barbs

O.K.

thanks

I used to avoid the whole barb thing myself, however I did break the mold and gave a shoal of cherry barbs a try (as the only barbs) hands down the decision I ever made the males are stunning, the ones I currently have so much character I have one of the males eating out of my hand already.

The females don't look as stunning but I do think they look nice too.

I would recommend cherrys for any community tank (group of 6 or more)

My tiger barbs are extremely aggressive (as can be seen in this thread: Tiger Barb Bullies ) towards each other, but I also have three polkadot loach and a load of amano shrimp in my tank. The loach and shrimp have never been bothered by the barbs... not even during feeding time. Loaches are pretty fast and as long as they have plenty of hiding places at bottom-level (wood, plants, caves etc.) they should feel safe from barbs. If you haven't got the tank yet, do make sure you take into account the fact that a lot of loaches can get quite big... go for zebras, yo-yos or polkadots as they don't grow as big as the more common clown loaches. They also like to be in a trio at least.
That's just my personal experience of barbs with shrimp and loaches anyway... my barbs tend to kick each others asses and leave everyone else alone! They didn't even pester the amano shrimp when they were babies, they certainly don't mess with them now that the shrimp are as long as they are! :good:

my Tiger Barbs play up with each other but don't bother any of the other fish, i have a school of 7.

its quite good fun watching them squabble for position in the group

What other fish do you have in there?

you could do an all barb tank
tiger
cherry
rosy
5-banded
all work together

if you decide on some tetras to go with tigers, make sure to gete bigger ones that can fend for themselves, like congos or columbians.

another tetra option is the serpae tetra who have a similar temperment to the tiger barbs

all that in mind, many still think that tiger barbs are best as a species tank (and i have my serpaes in a species tank right now as well)

OK thanks

have got a 39" tank and going for all barbs
