my fish stock in my semi planted tank has been run down to minimum and was thinking of stocking it with barbs, are they suitable for a planted tank or will the munch away on my hard work ?

Cherry Barbs and or Pentazona barbs look great in a planted tank. They'll leave your plants alone as well!

Dennisons may peck a tiny bit, Rhomb/Oranged-ringed/Snakeskin are another great option, but another peaceful planted one to consider is the beautiful Odessa/Ticto, that I only discovered in the last week has a stupidly deceptive name...

Yes folks, Odessa is in the Ukraine, which is where these barbs first appeared commercially outside their native MAYANMAR (Burma's new name)!!!!

Now if I had known that a couple of weeks ago, I would have definitely kept some space in my planning for them in my Rio240's theme of Myanmar river fish, with a dose of Central Africa and a sprinkle of India!

These 6-8cm adult fish, with a 2:1 male:female ratio, brings out some stuning red/yellow/orange colours.

Oohfeeshy has gold barbs in his tank. They look great, though he always wants to move them.

I've kept rosy barbs with plants. Large and quite showy. They can nip a bit, but only the really fine-leafed stuff. The hardy stuff would be fine. Other members have kept black ruby and checkerboard barbs too.
