I got my Albino Barb along with Tin foil Barbs yesterday from Petsmart. My Albino Barb (picture below) lost some scales during transportation. I notice that he also cut himself on top fin and I can see a streak of blood. I added Stress Coat after I added them to tank, but I am worried how long will it take for the barb to grow it's scales back as he lost quiet a few. Also, I am concerned for his exposed skin area to bacterias, how can I reduce his chances of getting sick. Well, I got him last night so he may still be stressed from the move from old home to new home. I fed him frozen blood worms after I released him to tank (like after an hour). He is doing fine right now, but I really don't want him getting sick or catching any diseases.

Please let me know what I can do to speed up his recovery process. Thanks All.

If it were me I would also use melafix, its a great 'cure all' and general tonic. I use it whenever a fish gets ill or damaged it helps them heal as well as helping to prevent infection.

Does seem a little strange that he lost scales, Ive never had that happen, were there lots of fish in the bag?

If you can get hold of a cheap UV steriliser it can help a great deal with 'damaged' fish by eliminating harmful bacteria in your tank.

Here in the U.K. there is a cheap system Here...

I believe that it is produced by a company called A A Aqautics in the US so you should be able to pick one up. I promise you that it is worth it. I had an Ich outbreak just before I got my UV and NO other fish caught it and it cleared up very, very quickly (within 2 days of putting the UV in the tank.)

Melafix is excellent stuff and will definately help in the recovery of the lost scales, the UV will help to defend your fish whilst they are recovering.

Hope this is of some help to you.

DB.
