Ian's desperate to get a pyjama cardinal for our tank, i'd prefer a bangaii but he's said if i let him get one i can have veto on all future fish and coral choices for the tank :hey:

i think that's a reasonable deal, was just wondering if there's any differences between the two in behaviour etc, if there's anything we need to consider for why one might be better than the other?

No behavioral differences. Both pretty much float in the center of the tank. Just aesthetic differences. Oh, well the pjamas get bigger, but not too big for your tank

let him have the one he wants... then get some bangaii later as one of your choices :)

Easier to breed and raise than Guppies? :S I suppose you mean besides the rotifers, pristine water conditions, and total absence of any and all predators that are required.

They are easy to breed, like many reef fish, but the fry are not easy to raise. :good:

Bangaii cardinals are not that difficult at all to breed and raise when compared to other fish. I read up on it when considering a SW breeding project. However, with collection costs so low nowadays you just cannot sell them to anyone to make anything near a profit unless you can get a commercial set up running into thousands or more of gallons.

If you are interested in breeding them, Frank Marini has a wealth of knowledge and experience on the subject.

From what I have read about them the bangaii are more likely to be bullys than the pajama if they are kept in shoals. Don't have any of my own proof of this only what I have researched.

As an aside does anyone know where I can get some tank raised Bangaii from? breeder in the yorkshire area if poss. :)

Rots are used only if you want a large brood if you are ok with doing it for fun you can let them mouth brood in the main tank till they get large enough to eat live food. the father will stop brooding them when they are a 1/4 inches .

hmmm the bloke in the lfs said bangaii's are much more delicate and sensitive????

as for letting him choose the pyjama and then getting the bagaii myself later.... would it be ok to mix them?

do they need to be kept in pairs/groups/alone?

Some say bangaiis need pairs some say they dont. I know pyjamas do not need a pair as noted by the MAMOTH one in the show tank at my LFS. Dave says he's had him for 10 years now all by his lonesome

how about mixing 1 bangaii and 1 pyjama, would that work?
