Bananananana Plant

i just bought a banana plant about 2 weeks ago. i noticed what i thought at the time to be a stem w/o a leaf. so i got mad at my whiptail and thought about moving him. anyway, i finaly realized its some sort of search stem?? its grown unbelievably fast and is right at where the light hits the water.

what is this stem? will it grow a leaf? will it grown another plant?

when i leave for work i look at where its at, 8 hours later its moved at least 1.5 inches

It will be look for the water surface, once it reaches it it will form a leaf on the surface. However if you want it to grow submerged leaves the best bet is probably to cut it off with some sharp scissors (as you would with a nymphae).
