HI there.

Has anyone head of the Banana Cichlid ?

Not sure of it's proper name but that's what these fellas were tagged as in the LFS

They were only babies. Im tempted to rehouse my community tank in order to get some Cichlid action going.

Any ideas anyone ?

no idea....its really annoying when lfs make up their own common names. I'm usually pretty good at guessing from common names but not sure on this one.

I suppose the next thing to do is to get a photo then.

They are yellow and have a black fin. Kinda slim and long and apparently grow to about 4inches.

Will try and get a digi pic from the LFS :D

surely its not a yellow lab?

Yes !

Looks like that to me.

Only babies but yep thats the one.

What can you tell me about these fellas then ?

Seem very pretty, nice colour too and im sure they are not dyed like many cichlids seem to be these days.

Would they exist ok with a few catfish ?

Any info greatly appreciatted :D

Thanks so much

Im gonna purchase four of these fellas tommorow for my 30 Gall tank

My brother is taking the orphans (tetras,Barbs and Angels for his 55 Gal)

Cichlids it is then !

Will my pleco and catfish be ok with this ?

It seems the yellow labs aren't overly aggressive in the right environment, maybe some more rocks and hopefully all will be ok...

sorry, what size tank? what type of plec? and what type of cat?

labs are not aggressive at all! they are a very nice and peaceful fish. even though there are differences in the labs between the sexes, i would get a larger group if you are trying for a breeding quad (1 male and 3 females).

Sorry ....30 US Gall .............3 albino catfish and one common Plec.

I already know that the Plec will get much bigger (currently about 3 1/2 inch) and will deal with that situation when it arises.

I know a lot of people say this but i honestly never knew the potential size of the plec when i bought it. I was brand new to fish keeping then.

I have a 50 Gall in the shed and im planning on building my own hood for it. As soon as thats ready im gonna transfer the inhabitants to that. For now im sure that the Plec, three cats and the four new lads should be ok ?
