Hi

Just need some info on how to feed these guys

I've got myself a bamboo shrimp, and being a filter feeder makes things interesting. I've been reading up on them, my tank is large enough (120 litres), but not mature enough (been going for about 2months now). So I'm guessing he needs some help when it comes to food.

Currently I'm using a baby food, which is a very finely ground flake. I also put in pleco algae tablets in there for my ancistrus. Trouble is, I'd have to put a large amount in so that he get's some, which would probably ruin my tank. I've read that other people blow food over them using a pipe. This would be difficult as he's usually hanging upside down under my bogwood giving everyone the finger.

He was completely grey when I got him at the LFS, but he's gone orange with a white stripe down his back. So I guess he's getting some food. I usually see him hanging out around the pleco algea tablet. He does rummage in the gravel some times, which is worrying.

I was thinking of trying something like putting in some infusoria? What would that do to my water? Should I be attemping to blow food at him? Or just carry on as I am with the baby food?

A good method of target feeding is to setup a ledge near your output flow. It will soon find its way into the flow of water. When you feed the fish I used a pipette to suck up some flake and send it his way.

Sadly I have failed to keep a filter shrimp alive for longer than 9 months :(

They seem to die during shedding for some reason.

Yet i have an army of cherries!!
