Got four today, two males, two females.......

they are orange stripey ones......(is there a proper name for them??)

any way, they seem a tad agressive.....

one of the females was feeding on amn algae wafer i put in for the cory...then another mollie came along, and the one that was there first decided to chase the other one away??...is this normal?...also noticed then chasing the gourami a bit too.

Hi jo and gra,

The general rule with live bearers is to get 3 females to every male. Is it the males that you find to be aggressive? You may be better swaping one of the males for a female or getting a couple more females, i also find that it helps if you have plants etc for the fish being picked on to hide in.

Hope this helps

Maybe its just a dominance thing. I only have females and there are 3. My orange one also chases away another molly if she is getting annoyed. She never hurts my others or anything though. No nips in fins nothing. Are Yours getting wonds or nips in fins?

The sailfin baloon molly in the link below is a male- note the tube like fin between his 2 bottom fins;

This also a male;

While this is a female balloon molly, note the fan shaped fin instead of tube like one;

this is also a female;

This does not only aply to baloon mollys it also applys to all other types of livebearers- males will always have a tube shaped anal fin while females a fan shaped one ;) .
