I think there may be an issue with one of my balloon Rams, she looks like she has a whiteness on her fin I'm sure wasnt there before

Tank size: 100x50x50

I don't know the exact water stats but I've had my water tested in 2 different shops this week and they both said it was fine,

tank temp: 26ish

I do water changes atleast 1-2 times a week

These are the best pics I can get at the minute, its only large white patches on one fin, I dont think its white spot...
she is the newest fish I have in my tank, I got her last week the same time I got a frog,
Her behaviour is completely normal, shes eating and swimming fine.

I want to be very careful with what I use in the tank because I have 10 young platy fry in there at the moment

I should've circled these really but hopefully someone will be able to see it...

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.

I would strongly suggest you invest in some test kits of your own.

For now take a sample of your tank water to the lfs to be test. As them if they wouldn't mind writing the readings down for you.

For now just do some water changes on your tank to see if that clears it up.
White edging to fins can be bacterial finrot.

There are 3 Platy, 10 in nets atm while im setting up another tank
1 fantail
1 frog
2 balloon rams
1 oto
1 ancistrus
and 1 molly

its a 55 gal

I'll do another water change and have it tested again then repost
are the red marks on the gils anything to worry about?
It was on all the other rams I've seen but it just doesnt seem right somehow...

Is the fish a fantail platy, or a fantail goldfish.

Do the gills look swollen, red and inflamed. Any excess mucas on the gills.
As that can be bad water quality, gill flukes, bacterial gill rot.

Never kept rams, so make sure there gills are not abit red in markings.

Fantail Goldfish
Im not sure cos both my rams have red gills...
but one of my yellow platys seems to aswell
they dont look at all swollen or having excess mucas
just very red...

Bumping myself cos its been awhile and nothings changed to I really need to get some medicine from the shops,
I'm thinking it may be fin rot so I'll go with that but will it affect the fry I have in the tank?

Or should I move the ram to another tank for the treatment
also is it contagious?

still no idea on the red gills

Add a baterial med.

Make sure the fish are showing no signs of rubbing there gills on objects in the tank, excess mucas, darting, erratic swimming.

Move the fish if possible.

I think the tank may be too hot for your fantail goldfish :(

I thought the fantail wouldnt be ok as he was my first fish before goin tropical,
but my lfs keeps them in heated tanks too and says they thrive in them!
stangely,
but hes absolutely fine hes all healthy, swims, eats, poops, really friendly lil thing too

bumping this up because I've treated for a week or so with fin rot meds, cant remember the name (turns the water blue)
anyway it hasn't improved, the white bits on the fins actually look slightly bigger

but none of the other fish in the tank have this, or any other signs of illness
Ill get some updated pics, im working at both my jobs today so wont be home til 12am

Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

What are your water stats please.
Check on the name of the med.

Really need to purchase a test kit in my view to allow you to perform your own water tests. Ideally you want zero for ammonia and nitrites, and nitrAtes around 20 ppm. fish store telling you that water stats are fine ,does not present much help.
Would also humbly suggest that the goldfish ,platy's,and molly(s) all require basic, hard, alkaline waters. 7.5 to 8.0. Molly's like warm water 80 to 84 degrees F where goldfish and platy's like cooler temps 72 to 74 degrees F would in my view suit both.
The Rams will do poorly in the long term in water with ph values much above 7.0 and do much better in soft, pH 6.2 to 6.8 ,,warm 82 to 84 degrees F water rather than the 78 degrees F you posted.
In my view, you have a mix of fish that do not share same water requirements and this could lead to stress which can in turn result in health issues.
I would not rely on fish store employees recommendations for fishes that can co-exist but rather I would research the fishes with the help of internet and books ,before I purchased fish. Quarantine tank would also be something I might consider for newly purchased fish to help prevent possible disease or pathogens unknown from being introduced to otherwise healthy tank.
Perhaps none of this is what you wish to hear ,but with few exceptions,,it is the truth.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this and sort out the white patch on his/her fin?

Strange but I'm going through exactly the same thing with one of my rams, treating for whitespot/velvet at the moment but it is only this one patch on one of the rams fins and no other fish is showing any sign of anything else. (it's even the same fin! )

Could it be something specific to rams I wonder??

I'm starting to think maybe its just the way its fin is now,
because theres just no other signs of illness on the other fish and the rams seem perfectly normal...
not sure what to do now.
