I have an orange female balloon molly that appears to be the most popular fish in the tank. Last week, my male Dalmatian molly breed with her. Yesterday, I added 3 new male platies into the tank and I noticed that they go after my balloon molly! It's kind of funny watching them struggle with her big balloon belly in order to breed with her. Whenever they try to breed, she swims to the back of the tank and hides among the plants. I have a smaller black balloon molly and she get's no attention from the males. Why are the male platies going after my balloon molly, even though I have tons of female platies for them?
it is true it is a love thang,my male balloon mollie only breeds with my other black but ignores my brown mollie and when i first got him he was all over my brown mollie, did she just give birth?that might also be the reason
She didn't give birth, but she is pregnant! My Dalmatian molly breed with her last week . . . and I saw it happen! I think she's giving off pheromones that are attracting the males to her.
