One of my balloon mollies that I've had for about 8-9 months has suddenly went down hill tonight. She was gasping on the bottom very unbalanced so I put her in a net inside the tank until she passes.

Since everyone else is fine and there is nothing visibly wrong with her I am assuming it's old age? I don't think balloons live to long and I'm not sure how old she was when I got her.

It's really sad when you loose fish you've had for awhile. :-(

ye if she dies and there's no sighn of illness most likely old age

Um...it can't be old age. Mollies aren't even mature until they are 1 year old, so at 9 months she can't be old. Unfortunatly, Balloons can have genetic defects and problems due to inbreeding and their shape, and they are also more prone to Swimbladder and other balance problems. :/ So sometimes they die very young.

That's what I was thinking too :/ They really are oddly shaped fish. Very far away from the natural looking molly. I've noticed that some look really big and healthy whereas some stay small and kind of always look sickly. Unfortunately I've got 2 looking like that. I bought them that way when I first started keeping balloons. If I would of known they weren't supposed to look like that I wouldn't of bought them. Well they have been with me for awhile so at least I've given them a good home.

Very true. I'm sure they were happy too. Perhaps they will pull through though..some just have temporary problems. :)
