hi i'm thinking of getting a bala shark and need some help like wat kind of tank size should i get?
also is it good to just have the shark alone or should i get another fish with it?

thx in advance!!

I personally wouldnt keep them in anything smaller than a 100-120 gallon but even then you're cutting it close with a 13'' fish and they are a schooling fish and are most comfortable with others.

Also keep in mind that most younger sharks are VERY skiddish! I've had them practically jump out of my tank when cleaning. :S

they sell when they are a few inches long, looking good in a small home tank, but then grow to be monster. huge they are fully grown, and they like to shoal so unfortunly your looking at atleast 200+ gallons in my personaly opinion.

what about red tail sharks i heard they grow up to 4.5' or more what kind of tank should i for a community of one redtail and 2 or 3 other fish?

RTBS - or red tailed black sharks are fairly aggressive once full grown, so they would need to be in a semi-aggressive tank with fish the same size of them if not bigger. As for tank size, I would say no smaller than 36" in length - thats around 30G plus.
As for the other fish, you could do a group of the larger rainbowfish, larger barbs, tetras, ect and possibly some bottom dwellers - all depending on the size of your tank of course. Possibly the larger cories or some loaches. HTH!
