I have figured it out an will be financially able to buy a bigger tank in july/earlyaug.

so that being the case i think it would probobly be better for my bala and angel to stay with me until then.instead of returning them to the pet store that will likely sell them to someone else with a small tank and may never check to see if its a proper fit. since on of you said i had a few months before stuning set in, then july/aug seems resonable to me.

what do you guys think?

knowing that i will be getting a bigger tank should i get another young bala to keep the one I currently have in my 20 gallon company? i remember one of you saying that would be ok as long as i was going to upgrade to a larger tank. what number should i get?

i am not disregarding your opinions. its just that i also remember another post i read stating that the bala at her local pet store never grew or sold in 6 months. i dont want that to happen to mine

thanks again you have been so helpful

sorry i missed your first one
what all is in the 20gallon right now?
if there is room for teeny tiny baby balas temporarily
then it might be ok, but if it were me i would wait until i got the bigger tank
your bala will be just fine alone for the time being :)

also, if he is alone, i don't see a problem keeping the bala in the 20gallon if only for 2-3 months tops
it would be no different if he hadn't sold and was in the shops waiting in a crowded little tank
be honest to yourself
if you are dedicated enough to save every extra penny until you can but him a suitable tank, then your probably the best owner he'll ever have and i say good luck
if you think you might opt out or not be able to afford it for sure 100%,
its sucks i know but the best thing is to give him back to the stores now,
just talk to the manager or owner of the store and say you want nothing for him, but you have a special request that they verify the size of the tank (at least 70gallon) before selling him

hey,
not all of us can afford to run out and buy a gigantic tank :dunno:
so good luck with whatever you do ;)

goldfish should not be kept in a tropical tank
they need cooler waters (no heater)
they also make a terrible mess and can make your other fish ill

your bala should be returned
he needs at least a 70 gallon

and your pleco (i'm guessing he's a common pleco, otherwise he wouldn't just be called a pleco) will get 12" and needs a 55 gallon :/
take him back to

sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but maybe you could start fresh? :dunno:
its only $10 for a 10gallon (tank only with no heater or filter or anything) at petcetera down in BC
(not that you should come down here, just saying that it is cheap :p )
you could put your goldfish in there
with regular water changes they can go without a filter (although a filter is preffered) and they do not need a heater or light
the 2 of them will fit comfortably in it (as long as you don't add more fish  )

then i would get your tiger barb some buddies, and maybe add some faster tetras and some darker coloured cory cats (awesome for cleaning and aren't bothered by your other fish)

please don't hate me
:) have fun restocking :flowers:
trust me you'll feal better when you have proper fish.
you won't have to worry and it will feal like christmas :santa:

EDIT: i got this vibe that you are a kid (living at home) and i don't know if you have a job but a 70 gallon with equiptment would cost a bundle compared to starting over

I really like my shark and fish is there a way they could all live on a big tank ? u said it needs a 70 gallo tank at least. would a 100 gallon tank work? how much would a 100 gallon tank cost????

the cost depends on where you are from
of COURSE a 100gallon would work but it would cost even more then a 70gallon
if you or your parents can afford several hundred dollars then i'd say knock yourself out!
if you can get a 70-100gallon then you (AFTER YOU HAVE THE BIG TANK CYCLED) should get 2 more balas as they should be in a school

but if not your only option is to get rid of them or they will not live long

if you want you can PM (message) me your location and i can tell you a ball park figure of how much it would cost ya

hey,
its really good to see someone follow my advice :D
(some people don't like to if its not what they want to hear  )
for the goldfish i would treat him with a parasite med
i beleive jungle products are what i have had the most success with
fizz tablets are cheap at your local walmart and usually clear up anything within 24-48 hours
it sounds like either parasites or the beginning of fin rot
the fish with the missing fin is very open to disease right now as it is weakened and stressed
the sooner you treat it the better your results
if you medicate him now then he'll be just fine,
and yes the torn/missing fin will grow back and rarely will it scar (unless VERY bad or to the body)

on another note, you should keep the pleco in the 50 gallon you plan on taking
you could probably even keep the barb with him,
but barbs are schooling fish so i would take this opportunity to add more to your tank (at least 4 more)
and it will reduce aggression
good luck
