I just cleaned some of my old tanks that had thick hard water stains, I couldn't believe how easily it came off, I just put some baking soda on the wet tank and used an acrylic scratch pad, it took very little elbow grease and just a few minutes. Next are the lids and filters more tanks and anything else I can find :yahoo:

Bringing out these tanks is like christmas

Won't the baking soda be harmful to the fish/water that you will put in the tank? That's why I avoid using anything but water to clean my tank.

It's just sodium hydrogen carbonate, it'll only increase the PH slightly if it gets into the tank, but if it's just residue left over, it wont make a difference.
