I woke up this morning to two dead Koi Swordtails and it appears that another is on its way out. I was treating them for Clamped Fin but I think I might be wrong. The Koi Swordtail that appears to be on her way out is having trouble staying balanced as well as struggling to swim. I have a 20 gallon tank and the parameters this morning were pH @ 7.4, the ammonia @ .25ppm, the nitrite @ 0.00ppm, and the nitrate is also 0.00ppm. I would assume the ammonia is up due to the fish dying in the middle of the night. Any help would be appreciated.

Hiya,

Try a Swim Bladder medication asap

Might be the last shot for you to try unfortunately

ps: yes, the ammonia spike surely points to the dead fish

Thank you. Sadly I lost 3 of my 4 Koi Swordtail. I did a 50% water change with some extra salt. The rest of the fish seem to be doing great after the water change and I will look into having Swim Bladder Disease medicine in stock. I am curious to know the following: Are swordtails maybe even more specifically Koi Swordtails more susceptible to disease or illness compared to mollies?

Hiya,

Sorry you've lost most of them :(

Without searching i really have no idea if those fish are more susceptible to deseases

For the swimbladder treatment, look for something like interpet etc

You want all or most of these active ingredients ..........

Bronopol
Formaldehyde
Benzalkonium Chloride

Formaldehyde and the Benzalkonium Chloride are found in a fair few treatments, if you have ever treated for ich you might of had at least two of those ingredients ;)

Keep up the battle, hope you can save what's left, and keep checking for ammonia spiking

Hope you find some medication (pets at home do interpet if you're in the uk and near to a store, only £4.50 or somert) and it worked for my barbs, fast too

Tony

Well I am in the States and I live a a very rural area so I have 3 local fish stores however none of them carry a wide variety of medicine or fish, I do have a Petco and Petsmart if you have seen them before but I don't like going there. I will look around for the interpet. Thank You.
