Fish Fanatic
oOoo today is an expensive day in my fish tank world. I was laready planning on completely overhauling everything in 2 of my tanks but the fish, which left 4 fine
(one of those 4 doesn't even have anything in it, lol). So I started on my 20 gal with one convict, took everything out and stirred up the sand as I do every once in a while, washed everything off, found out my driftwood still won't sink (I'd been holding it down with rock) after a year of having it in that tank, did about a 75% water change. Ugh. So that's going pretty well. The convicts a little freaked out, but he's always freaked out when I do this, which isn't horribly often, once every couple months. And then I moved on to do the same thing to my other 20 long convict tank, cept there's no sand...just major cleaning, and my heater SHATTERED. So there's glass all over the inside of the tank in the gravel. I got the really big shards and the rest of the heater out. So now I gotta replace the gravel AND the heater from that tank. And there's nothing in there now but a couple rocks and one plant so the yoyo can hide after challenging the convict (he does it like once a minute). It's weird how compatible those guys are...they've been living together for maybe 2 years and the yoyo is the only fish the convict never even tried to kill. He just ignores the challeneges, lol. But anywho, so now I have a chance to completely change the look of that tank.
And just about an hour ago I found out my filter in my goldfish tank had a short and almost set the house on fire, so now I have to go buy either a new filter, or get new tubing from my only other leftover filter.
It's almost like the cost of setting up a whole new tank. Thank goodness I don't need a new hood or stand
On the bright side of my day...I asked my new roommate if she'd mind a couple of my tanks going into the very small room (1 20 gal with convict and one 2.5 gal with betta), and she was actually really excited about it. Course, I think she was dissapointed when she found out they weren't saltwater...and then even more dissapointed when she found out there was only one fish per tank...but I just can't leave my favorite little cichlid home. Unfortunately I don't think I have room for the other convict tank...but or dorm is SO leniant on aquariums. We can ahve em as long as they're not over 25 gallons. Score.
SO MY QUESTIONS.....
How would you all decorate a 20 long that had a convict and a yoyo loach? I don't want a full sand bottom because I HATE sand. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it clean. One tank with it is enough. But I want maybe 1/3 of it to be a sand bed, I think, for the loach. Would you put in driftwood or just rocks? Java moss? What kind of low light plants would work well with them (the convict does enjoy digging them up, but not to the extent that I can't have them). What kind of gravel should I have that would look good with my playsand? What colors should I use to bing out the convict and yoyo?
Thanks!
