Okay, i have a 240L tank, well established, and all the inhabitants are quite happy, too happy infact, over the past few months i have been suffering overcrowding because there seems to be some form of fishy aphrodisiac in the water. first i had a problem with my Guppies, this was sorted by moving all the females to my sons tank to live with his platy's, guppy problem solved at the possible expense of guppy sexual happiness, however this seemed to open the door for my platy's and it wasn't long until i had baby platys coming out of my ears. i managed to pawn 10 of the baby's off to my father and another 15 to my local fish shop, though unfortunately the local fish shop doesn't really like taking in fish, perhaps this has something to do with the thirty or so huge sailfin plecs that are ex-household members now on pretty much permanent relocation to the shop, but i digress, im still up to my ears in Platys. before i could come up with a solution i discover what many people would consider a wonderful thing, but just made my heart sink, a while back i had two bristlenose and they had baby's, 5 made it to adult hood, 2 went to my dad, and three remained with me unable to find new homes, these 3 all turned out to be female and wouldnt you know it, every single one, including the original mother, seems to have had babys, thats 4 clutches of eggs hatching on me at once with the platys still at it like its the end of the world, this wouldnt be too much of a big deal if there wasnt other tank mates, this has left me with a 240l tank containing

1 x RTBS
1 x Ruby Shark
8 x Tiger Barb
2 x Odessa barb
3 x Siamese Flying Fox
5 x Bronze Corydora
3 x Panda Corydora
2 x Dwarf Frogs
4 x Male Guppy
5 x Bristlenose (adult)
60+ x Platys
and i'm estimating at around 50-60 baby bristlenose

now im so hidiously overstocked that its unreal, fortunatly the baby BN's are currently under half an inch each, so, and this sounds horrid but im getting desperate, i was hoping the tiger barbs would snack on them, but they are ignoring them??? ideally i need to try and find a new home for all these fish as i dont like the idea of euthanising them, but thats my problem, what i need to know is if there is any advice on any way to limit the breeding, the tank is already hard water, which is supposed to help, pH is ever so slightly acid (about 7.8 as of about a week ago) nitrate and nitrite are okay (i have had to add two fluval 4 internal pumps to help the external pump keep up) is there anything, ANYTHING i can do to put them off each other?

Hello :)

I know the feeling but i'm not as bad as you, just with my platies as thats all i have just starting, but I do have a thread for my platy's and someone said keep the same sex of fish. So i will be donating my males to replace them by females. Hope you find a answer soon.

Have you thought about ebaying them or if you're in the UK, putting them on Gumtree, if in the US, something similar. Or placing notices up in local supermarkets or newsagents?

That way, atleast someone may step forward? Or even making a page on facebook and get the word out?

I know it's desperate measures but if it helps you to place them into homes, it may help?

Where exactly are you?

I must have the same water as you! mine are all being little breeders at the moment too, advertise them on here http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/recent.php
